What is a Family Practice doctor?
A family physician is a doctor who takes care of the whole family. Family physicians deliver a range of acute, chronic and preventative medical care services. In addition to diagnosing and treating illness, they also provide preventative care including routine checkups, health-risk assessments, immunization and screening tests, and personalized counseling on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Family physicians also manage chronic illness, often coordinating care provided by other subspecialists.
What is an Internal Medicine doctor?
Doctors of internal medicine focus on adult medicine and have had special training focusing on the prevention and treatment of adult diseases. Internists are sometimes referred to as the “doctor's doctor,” because they are often called upon to act as consultants to other primary care physicians to help solve puzzling diagnostic problems.
What is an OB/Gyn?
OB/Gyn stands for Obstetrician/Gynecologist. An OB/Gyn is a physician specialist who provides medical and surgical care to women and has particular expertise in pregnancy, childbirth, and disorders of the reproductive system. This includes preventative care, prenatal care, detection of sexually transmitted diseases, Pap test screening, and family planning.
