Despite our efforts to reduce sun exposure and protect against skin cancer, age spots and wrinkles will eventually happen to all of us as they are the inevitable signs of aging. However, rejuvenating skin treatments can help to refresh the face for a more youthful appearance. One or a combination of skin treatments can help you to rejuvenate your look and diminish the signs of aging.
1. Chemical Peel
Through the application of a topical solution, a chemical peel works by removing the top layers of facial skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, sun damage and uneven pigmentation. There are a number of peels available which vary in terms of strength of ingredients.
While light peels can be administered by a trained clinician, there are some stronger peels that should only be applied if supervised by a board-certified dermatologist.
Microdermabrasion is a method of improving light acne scars and reducing the appearance of age spots. It’s occasionally referred to as a “lunchtime” skin treatment because it can be performed quickly and easily in your dermatologist’s office.
Microdermabrasion is performed with a handheld instrument that rubs tiny crystals onto the skin’s surface. These crystals work to gently exfoliate the upper layers of the skin. Light suction is then used to remove the crystals along with dead skin cells.
3. Laser Resurfacing
Laser resurfacing removes the outer layers of the skin that are unevenly pigmented, wrinkled, or damaged, such as from years of sun exposure. It also stimulates collagen production and helps to create new skin cells in the skin’s underlying layers. Laser resurfacing can help to remove age spots and fine lines or wrinkles on the face or neck and can “reset the clock” in terms of youthful facial appearance.
