Emergency medicine facility, medical office building designed to meet growing health care needs in Bastrop, surrounding areas
Ascension Seton has a new vision to better provide health care and services to Bastrop County and surrounding areas, beginning with a new medical campus located in the heart of Bastrop.
Initially, the campus will feature an emergency medicine facility with ambulatory care services – a way to bring excellent hospital care closer to home for the area’s residents, specifically tailored to the changing needs of the community’s growing population. The campus will also include a new medical office building designed to make access to primary and specialty care physicians much easier and simpler for residents.
“Our goal is to provide compassionate, personalized care that’s convenient for Bastrop, Manor, Smithville and other nearby communities,” said Jesús Garza, Seton’s president and chief executive officer and leader of Ascension’s Texas Ministry Market. Seton is part of Ascension, the nation’s largest Catholic and nonprofit health system.
Meeting the needs of a growing community
Bastrop is one of the top 50 fastest growing counties in America, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. An estimated 2,400 people moved to the area between 2014 and 2015, and conservative estimates suggest another almost 6,000 residents will migrate to Bastrop County over the next five years.
Bastrop’s rapid population increase means that the area’s demand for high-quality care has also skyrocketed.
“That’s why it’s important that we’re building a space we can develop over time, with the flexibility to offer the types of services that evolve along with community members’ changing needs,” said Garza.
Ascension Seton continues to serve Smithville
The emergency medical center, on an approximately 32-acre site, is expected to house at least eight inpatient beds, 12 treatment rooms and imaging services.
In addition to the medical campus in Bastrop, Ascension Seton will continue to provide clinical services in Smithville. Ascension Seton is evaluating changing health care needs throughout Bastrop County to match levels of care that will best serve residents living east of Austin.
Ascension Texas – Ascension Seton and Providence Healthcare Network in Waco, will invest nearly $30 million to develop the Bastrop medical campus and related services.
