AUSTIN, Texas – (Jan. 7, 2015) – Beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 7, the 15th Street entrance to University Medical Center Brackenridge will temporarily close. This will impact ambulance, public and employee vehicular access to the hospital, its emergency room, and the parking garage.
The lane closures will not cut off access to the hospital. The Red River entrance to the hospital will remain open throughout construction. During this time there will be no parking along Hospital Drive to allow flow to/from the UMCB parking garage and emergency department entrance.
Over the past several months, underground utility work for UT’s Dell Medical School has closed two lanes at a time on 15th Street between Red River Street and Interstate 35. When utility work shifted to the two most southerly lanes, traffic no longer is able to turn into UMC Brackenridge from 15th Street.
The remaining lane closures and their time frames are as follows:
- Jan. 7-Jan. 22: The two southern-most, eastbound traffic lanes on the UMC Brackenridge side of 15th Street will be closed. The hospital entrance off 15th Street also will be closed to all eastbound and westbound traffic.
- Jan. 24-Jan. 31: The sidewalk area on the UMC Brackenridge side of 15th Street will be closed. The hospital entrance off 15th Street also will be closed to all eastbound and westbound traffic.
