For 18 years, National Research Corporation has honored a select group of U.S. hospitals identified by consumers as providing the highest quality health care.
And for the 18th year in a row, that list features Seton Medical Center Austin.
Just 37 U.S. hospitals have won Consumer Choice Awards during all 18 years of the awards’ existence. Just 16 Texas hospitals are on the new 2013-14 list.
Winners are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings collected in National Research’s Market Insights Survey. This study surveys more than 270,000 households in the contiguous 48 states and the District of Columbia.
From the households surveyed, hospitals named by consumers are analyzed and ranked based on their Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs) as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, with the winning facilities being ranked the highest.
“To be honored for the 18th year in a row speaks volumes about the commitment and expertise of physicians, nurses and everyone else who serve our patients,” said Charlotte Thrasher, Seton Medical Center Austin’s vice president and chief operating officer. “It also demonstrates how excellent care is embedded in our mission-driven culture. Our patients and their loved ones are our best salespeople and we are honored that so many of them think so highly of us.”
“Today, providing the best health care means striking just the right balance between high tech care and high touch caring with each individual patient,” said Kate Henderson, president and chief operating officer of Seton Medical Center Austin. “Seton employees do that successfully, reflecting our overall commitment to and connection with our community — and it’s heartening to see that so many of our patients appreciate it.”
Susan L. Henricks, National Research president and chief operating officer, said, “We are thrilled to offer this annual award because we understand how important the role of reputation plays in health care consumer decision-making. These winners have done an outstanding job of representing their organizations in terms of high quality care, improvement initiatives and positive consumer perceptions and experiences.
“The consumers have spoken,” said Hendricks, “and we congratulate the winning hospitals in receiving this honor.”
