Congratulations! Becoming a parent, even if it is not the first time, is always a new and exciting time in our lives!
Breastmilk is the perfect food for new babies. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization both agree that babies need nothing else but breastmilk for about the first 6 months after birth. In the next few days, you will be learning how to feed your new baby. In the United States and other parts of the world, there are some well accepted steps to successful breastfeeding that will be outlined in this book. Our nurses have special training to assist with breastfeeding.
Making a commitment to breastfeed and having the confidence to do it is the first step!
Talk to your healthcare provider about your own health and your plan to breastfeed. Discuss any breast surgery or injury you may have had. If you take medications regularly or have depression, discuss options that will work with breastfeeding. Talk to friends who have breastfed their babies and consider joining a breastfeeding support group. Your body is ready when baby arrives!
Seton has contracted with Breastfeeding Success to provide comprehensive lactation services during your stay at any of our facilities as well as continued support with outpatient services once you get home. With this partnership, you will have access to qualified lactation support throughout your pregnancy and your entire breastfeeding experience.
Our lactation staff teaches prenatal breastfeeding classes and will be there in the hospital once you deliver your baby to ensure that you get the best start possible. Once you leave the hospital and you and your baby are continuing to learn together, you will have access to the same team and possibly even the same International Board Certified Lactation Consultant® (IBCLC®) that helped you in the hospital or taught your breastfeeding class.
With a model of care that addresses needs throughout the entire lifecycle of breastfeeding, we are confident that we can help you reach your breastfeeding goals and define your own breastfeeding success. Learn about all the services that we offer and meet our team at www.bfsuccess.com.
