This is a broad term that covers a range of procedures involving organs in the abdomen, such as the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large bowel and appendix, as well as the rectum.
In addition to providing comprehensive general surgery, we specialize in bariatric surgery procedures including gastric bypass, adjustable gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, nearly all of which can be done laparoscopically, minimizing discomfort and recovery time. Our team is made up of healthcare professionals who have undergone extensive, specialized training in weight-loss surgery resulting in consistent, compassionate care and support for our patients.

Our surgeons also provide the highest-quality care minimally invasive biopsy techniques, breast cancer surgery and the management of benign breast disease.
This surgical specialty focuses on procedures performed on endocrine glands (thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal) to achieve hormonal or anti-hormonal effects in the body. This could include the removal of a tumor that has grown on or in an endocrine gland or removal of the gland itself.
General and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery
We are proud to have as a member of our team the first surgeon in Austin to perform Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery to remove the gallbladder, which is done through one small (less than an inch) incision. All of our surgeons have had extensive training in the very latest and highly specialized laparoscopic techniques to address problems such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (heartburn), removal of the gallbladder or colon and hernia repair. In addition to having less pain, you can expect smaller scars, less time in the hospital and a faster return to normal activities.
Head and Neck Surgery
Our surgeons offer a variety of surgical treatments for thyroid and parathyroid conditions, as well as congenital and malignant diseases of the head and neck.
A hernia results when the abdominal wall is weakened, allowing the abdominal contents to protrude beyond the normal boundaries. Our surgeons can repair a variety of hernias, including groin hernias, incisional hernias and other abdominal wall hernias.
Skin and Soft Tissue Surgery
Our surgeons can remove a variety of skin lesions and other growths on the body such as moles, keratosis, skin tags, skin cancers, sebaceous cysts, lipomas and abscesses.
Surgical Critical Care
Our critical care physicians provide comprehensive care to critically ill patients from all surgical specialties and in all age groups, from the emergency room to the operating room and intensive care units. Providing expertise in a number of disciplines, our specialists in surgical critical care have a broad knowledge base and expertise to treat the critically ill surgical patient with complications such as trauma, burns, infection and acute inflammation. In addition to immediate treatment, our critical care specialists provide support of the patient’s overall health and consideration of interactions with other disease processes.
Our surgeons specialize in the surgical management of cancer and coordinate comprehensive treatment of the cancer patient. Our team includes one of a few surgeons in the Austin area who is using exciting new microwave technology to ablate or remove liver cancer.
Injuries resulting from trauma are often among the most complex because of the multi-system nature of traumatic injury. Our surgeons are part of the highly skilled surgical teams at University Medical Center Brackenridge’s Level I Trauma Center and Seton Medical Center Williamson’s Level II Trauma Center.
