Since the numbers of rooms are limited, priority is given to families of critically ill patients at network facilities, outpatients from Seton facilities, and then families from other Austin hospitals. A limited number of rooms may be available for people having early morning medical exams or day surgery.

In the early 1970s, Sister Mary Rose McPhee, a Daughter of Charity and then administrator of Seton Medical Center Austin, noticed many families sleeping on makeshift beds in the hallways while their loved ones were hospitalized. Many were from outlying areas in Central Texas and could not make the daily travel or afford to stay in a nearby hotel.
With the generous support of The Junior League of Austin (hence the name) and Dick Rathgeber, Seton established the first four-room facility in 1979. After several moves and expansions over the years, the Seton League House is now conveniently located at its address on Medical Parkway in Austin, Texas.
