The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education has recently released new standards, criteria and policies that govern CME providers. As a CME provider, Ascension Seton Family of Hospitals will adhere to the Updated Criteria for Compliance — ensuring all CME consists of practice-based learning and is in response to documented knowledge gaps. Your CME staff is here to help.
“It is a critical time for Continuing Medical Education to address the competence and performance gaps of physicians that underlie deficits in the quality of US healthcare …CME is being asked to provide solutions to bridge healthcare quality gaps…”-From the “CME as a Bridge to Quality” report by ACCME
In response to guidelines set about from ACCME, the Ascension Seton Family of Hospitals is changing the way CME is handled. We are aligning CME with patient safety goals, providing CME that better prepares physicians for licensure and certification testing , and providing better post-testing and measures of clinical outcomes, as called for by new requirements.
The new CME system will focus on practice-based learning, be derived from the physician’s professional gaps, designed to change physician competence, performance or patient outcomes and evaluated for its effectiveness in changing competence, performance or patient outcomes.
