Diagnosing heart conditions correctly is an important part of making sure patients get the right care. Because there are many different types of heart disease, there are different tests your heart doctor may perform.
Take the Next Step
- Calcium Scoring (Heart Healthy CT): The Heart Healthy CT Scan is a way to see if you’re at risk for heart disease or stroke.
- Cardiac MRI (adult and pediatric): An MRI uses radio waves to take images of your heart instead of radiation.
- Cardiac Stress Test: This test helps your doctor see how your heart works when you’re exercising.
- Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG): An EKG records the strength and speed of your heartbeats.
Other tests can check the buildup of plaque in your arteries, or use other technology (like ultrasound waves) to check your heart health. Your doctor will also likely give you a physical exam and ask you questions about your medical history. Blood tests may also be drawn.
The type of tests your doctor performs will depend on the heart condition he or she feels you may have. Some people may have just one diagnosis test, while others may need several.
