CEO and President, Ascension Texas Insurance Services
Trent Bruce oversees all aspects of development and operations of Ascension Insurance Services, including:
- The clinically integrated networks of Care4Texans, Dell Children’s Health Alliance, and Seton Health Alliance
- Dell Children’s Health Plan
- Seton Insurance Company
- Seton Health Plan
- SmartHealth (the Seton Employee Benefit Plan); and
- Administrative and Care Management Support for Travis County’s unfunded and underfunded populations (MAP and Sliding Fee Scale)
An accomplished health care executive with over 19 years of experience, Trent obtained his Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Colorado State University. Prior to joining Ascension Texas, Trent spent 13 years with UnitedHealth Group in various leadership roles. During his time at United, he attended multiple Pinnacle recognitions, served on the Sales Leadership Council, and participated in the Executive Development Program in conjunction with the Wharton School of Business. Responsibilities included oversight of Key Accounts, Public Sector, Ancillary, and TPA lines of business serving the healthcare needs of over 250,000 Central Texans.
As Vice President, Transformation Development (ACO), Marinan Williams leads all aspects of development and operations for the clinically integrated networks of Seton Health Alliance and Dell Children’s Health Alliance, including:
- Creating infrastructure for analytics platform to distribute across physician groups for value-based care
- Network development and growth
- Care Coordination and Care Management programs serving the ACO membership and physician groups
- Financial and quality management to support market needs
With a career spent at the intersection of provider and payor programs, Marinan has created and delivered on strategies related to growth and expense management with both provider-sponsored health plans and ACOs, serving both commercial and governmental programs. Recently she was the Sr. Executive Officer for Market Relations with Southwestern Health Resources, a clinically integrated network in the north Texas market. Immediately prior she served as the COO for Scott & White Health Plan for 9 years and assumed an interim CEO position, post-merger with Baylor.
With a B.S. in Microbiology from Texas Tech and a M.S. in Health Care Administration from Texas Woman’s, she is a certified fellow in both America’s Health Insurance Plans and the American College of Healthcare Executives. Marinan was also appointed by the Texas Department of Insurance Commissioner to serve on the Board of Directors of Texas’ High Risk Pool for eight years.
Medical Director, Seton Health Alliance
Tom Caven, MD, a native Austinite, received his BA from the University of Texas at Austin, and his MD from the University of Texas School of Medicine at San Antonio. He served as Chief Resident at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. A founding member of Travis Physician Associates, Tom also served as Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director for the University Medical Center Brackenridge, at the time Austin’s level one trauma center. He also served on the Board of Directors of Austin Diagnostic Clinic.
Concurrent with his duties as Medical Director for Seton Health Alliance, Dr. Caven is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medical Education at the University of Texas Dell Medial School. Continuing his deep connection to the University of Texas, Tom serves on the External Advisory Committee for UT’s School of Biomedical Engineering.
Senior Director of Finance, Seton Insurance Services
Anne Kennedy brings over 30 years of business management experience to her role as Senior Director of Finance, including more than 25 years in healthcare. Prior to joining Seton, she worked as Controller for the Travis County Healthcare District. She previously served as Controller at several HCA facilities in Texas and Florida and as a consultant with Hunter, in addition to working with hospitals in La Grange and Houston and a multi-specialty physician practice in Houston. Anne has extensive experience in healthcare finance, reimbursement analysis, contracting, healthcare operations and financial forecasting.
Anne holds a B.B.A. from the University of Houston and is a Certified Public Accountant licensed by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. Anne is a native of Buffalo, New York, and in her spare time enjoys game nights, reading, cooking and is an avid quilter.
Director of Operations, Seton Health Alliance/Dell Children’s Health Alliance
Sara Taylor is the Director of Operations for Ascension Texas’ regional clinically integrated networks, and value-based services. She is also founding principal of the Ascension Texas’ executive Value-Based Steering Committee and is leading the development of Ascension Texas’ Medicare and Chip Reauthorization Act (MACRA) strategic plan, a multiyear initiative aligning Ascension system partners and community practitioners across the healthcare continuum.
Her work has benefited both the Ascension system and the network’s physician partners with significant new revenue streams. Through her leadership, physician-led groups in the clinically integrated networks have saved the greater Austin community over $100M in excess medical spend since 2015.
Sara came to Ascension in April of 2014 from Cigna-HealthSpring, where she served as the Director of Network Operations for select services lines throughout the Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma (TAO) region. Demonstrating an aptitude for business development early in her career, Sara advanced quickly in the Cigna organization. Among her achievements, Sara founded the regional behavioral health network division which was later scaled nationally, oversaw the migration of Cigna-HealthSpring’s regional contract data into a new claims payment platform, and managed the integration of select operational teams after the acquisition of Bravo Health.
Sara received her BBA in Marketing from the Mays College of Business at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX.
