Dr. Pirwitz serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Seton Heart Institute. He has extensive cardiac research experience that includes participating in more than 100 clinical studies published in major medical journals such as New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, Annals of Internal Medicine and Archives of Internal Medicine. Dr. Pirwitz's research focuses on various interventional cardiology devices such as cardiac stents and numerous pharmacologic studies involving patients with congestive heart failure, acute coronary syndromes, elevated cholesterol and heart rhythm and heart valve problems.

Dr. Pirwitz received his medical degree from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas and completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship there. He fulfilled his interventional cardiology fellowship at the Mid-America Heart Institute at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Prior to joining the Seton Heart Institute in October 2010, Dr. Pirwitz was Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Seton Medical Center Austin (SMCA) from 2001-2005 and Director of the Seton Cardiac Database at SMCA from 1997 to 2005. He also served as a partner with Austin Cardiovascular Associates for nine years. Most recently he was Director of Cardiology at the Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho and Director of the Northwest Cardiovascular Research Institute in Spokane, Wash.

As an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Pirwitz provides therapeutic interventional procedures such as coronary PTCA and coronary stents. He also provides acute cardiac care, as well as general consultative and diagnostic services. Dr. Pirwitz is board certified in interventional cardiology and cardiovascular diseases.
