Ammar Ahmed, MD

A native of Charleston, West Virginia, Dr. Ahmed is a graduate of Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Following medical school, he completed his internship in internal medicine with the University of Texas Medical Branch at University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin.
After completing his dermatology residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas--where he was clinic chief resident—Dr. Ahmed moved back to Austin and joined the faculty of University of Texas Physicians in 2011. He practices general dermatology at both the downtown Austin and Kyle clinics, with expertise in medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology, and also runs the dermatology service for CommUnityCare in Austin. Dr. Ahmed is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Ahmed has a special interest in disorders of pigmentation, especially vitiligo, and also directs the Central Texas Center for Pigmentary Disorders.
Dr. Ahmed is actively involved in research and has presented his findings at meeting around the world and through multiple peer-reviewed articles. He has been a leader in dermatologic education in Austin. Dr. Ahmed serves as Associate Program Director for the dermatology residency program at UT-Austin’s Dell Medical School, and directs the dermatology block for the Mechanisms of Disease Module in the Dell Medical School curriculum. In his free time, Dr. Ahmed and his wife enjoy travelling and hiking the Greenbelt trails here in Austin.
