President, Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas
Christopher Born, joined Dell Children’s as president in October 2017, has an extensive background in children’s health care, with experience in hospital operations, physician practice management, women’s services, and children’s health plans.
He joins Dell Children’s from Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, where he spent almost three decades of his career in multiple leadership capacities and worked alongside current Ascension Texas President and CEO Craig Cordola.
Most recently, Born served as President and CEO of Texas Children’s Health Plan, the nation’s largest health plan for children with more than 430,000 enrollees and revenues in excess of $1.5 billion. Born built the plan from the ground up. In this role he reported to the Board of Directors for the largest provider-sponsored HMO in Texas, managed all financial obligations, and handled the areas of network develo pment, medical management and human resources.
During his time as President of the health plan, Born also established an extensive network of women’s services — Texas Children’s Women’s Specialists — to improve access to quality OB-GYN and maternal medicine services to meet the needs of the underserved throughout the Houston area.
Prior to his role within the Texas Children’s Health Plan, Born created a pediatric primary care network for Texas Children’s. Established in 1995, he led the effort to build Texas Children’s Pediatric Associates, the largest pediatric primary care group in the country with more than 250 physicians.
Born serves on the Board of Directors of numerous professional organizations including Texas Association of Health Plans and is the past chairman for Greater Houston HealthConnect.
Originally from upstate New York, Born earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at State University of New York, Oswego, and his Master of Business Administration degree at Rice University.
