Chief Medical Officer, Dell Children’s Medical Center
In 2017, Dr. Meena Iyer was named Chief Medical Officer at Dell Children’s Medical Center. Dr. Iyer grew up in Mumbai, India. She finished her medical degree and a General Surgery Residency from Mumbai University, India before moving to the Unites States in 1998. She started her Pediatric Residency at UMDNJ, Newark, New Jersey and then transferred to AMEP, Austin to complete her second and third year Pediatric Residency.
Dr. Iyer finished her pediatric training in 2005 and stayed backed as a Fourth Year Chief Resident with the program. She joined PCRS as a hospitalist in 2006. She transitioned into the role of Lead Hospitalist in 2013 and then took over as the NPHO leader in 2014. In her role, she helped oversee Adolescent Medicine, Developmental Pediatrics, Child Abuse, Community Care East Austin Clinic, Child Health Express Van and the Pediatric Hospitalist service.
Dr. Iyer is a member of various national and state committees. She has presented posters and abstracts at National, Regional and local conferences. She is the co-editor of the Neurology Chapter for “Step Up Pediatrics.” She also co-chairs the Annual Pediatric Conference held in spring at DCMC, which is targeted for the community pediatricians, family practice doctors and mid-level providers.
Dr. Iyer holds an academic appointment of Assistant Professor of Pediatrics with Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin. She is board certified in pediatrics and is actively involved in clinical care, teaching residents and students and clinical research. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her two kids. She loves music and travelling.
