A dedicated child advocate, Dr. Hellerstedt followed the progress of Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas from its inception to opening. Before signing on with Seton, Dr. Hellerstedt worked with the Texas Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program. There, he was medical director for the Medicaid CHIP Division with the Health & Human Services Commission. Dr. Hellerstedt was named the 2007 Texas Pediatric Society Child Advocate of the Year.
Prior to that, Dr. Hellerstedt served as associate faculty with the Austin Pediatric Education Program, teaching medical students and residents and directing patient care in both in-patient and out-patient settings. Board certified in general pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Hellerstedt practiced general pediatrics for 18 years with Austin Regional Clinic. While at ARC, he also served as pediatric department chairman.
