Good nutrition is essential for a baby's continued growth and development. Your baby's nutrition needs are an important concern of our staff.

There are times when a newborn's respiratory system is such that feeding the baby from the breast or bottle is not always possible. There are also times when a newborn's digestive system is unable to digest breast milk or formula. When an infant is not able to take in his/her nutritional needs by breast or bottle feeding, he/she is fed a nutritional solution through a catheter inserted into a vein. The placement of the catheter may be in a vein located in the hand, foot, or scalp. If a scalp vein is used, it may be necessary to shave your baby's hair in order to insert and tape the IV catheter.
