Epilepsy Clinic

  • Take history and perform examination
  • Obtain prior medical records
  • Make epilepsy and seizure classification
  • Optimize current antiepileptic drug treatment
  • Arrange appropriate outpatient workup

Neuroimaging

  • MRI of the brain, with pertinent sequencies
  • Other special neuroimaing modalities, such as PET, SPECT or MRS may be used

Video-EEG Monitoring

  • Admit to Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
  • Lower patient's antiepileptic drugs in a controlled environment
  • Capture a few good quality stereotypical seizures.
  • Seek to localize the seizure focus

Neuropsychologic Evaluation

  • Perform a full battery of neuropsychological tests
  • Assess possible cognitive deficits
  • Assess possible depression or other psychiatric conditions

WADA Test

  • One day procedure involves cerebral angiogram and the use of Sodium Amytal
  • Assess the location of memory and language functions inside the brain

Epilepsy Conference

  • Review pre-surgical evaluation data
  • Determine surgical candidacy
  • Formulate plan for surgery
