Epilepsy Clinic
- Take history and perform examination
- Obtain prior medical records
- Make epilepsy and seizure classification
- Optimize current antiepileptic drug treatment
- Arrange appropriate outpatient workup
Neuroimaging
- MRI of the brain, with pertinent sequencies
- Other special neuroimaing modalities, such as PET, SPECT or MRS may be used
Video-EEG Monitoring
- Admit to Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
- Lower patient's antiepileptic drugs in a controlled environment
- Capture a few good quality stereotypical seizures.
- Seek to localize the seizure focus
Neuropsychologic Evaluation
- Perform a full battery of neuropsychological tests
- Assess possible cognitive deficits
- Assess possible depression or other psychiatric conditions
WADA Test
- One day procedure involves cerebral angiogram and the use of Sodium Amytal
- Assess the location of memory and language functions inside the brain
Epilepsy Conference
- Review pre-surgical evaluation data
- Determine surgical candidacy
- Formulate plan for surgery
