Women who live in Central Texas have improved access to breast cancer screening thanks to SETON’s mobile mammography unit. The Planned Sophie Classic Mobile mammography x-ray system is the first true roll-off/roll-on mobile version in Central Texas. The compact, low-level radiation system can be set up inside clinics, business offices, churches and community centers. It fits through a standard doorway and requires only a regular walled room. The unit was funded by a grant from the Austin affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Quality Assurance
Like all SETON mammography services, the unit is fully certified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Texas Department of Health. Mobile unit mammograms are read by the same group of specialized physicians who review all SETON Healthcare Network mammograms – Austin Radiological Association.
Providing Access to the Underserved
SETON Cancer Program’s mobile mammography program reaches out to underserved women who would otherwise not have access to mammography services. SETON works with community organizations to schedule mobile screenings for groups of qualified women. Funding from the Austin Affiliate of the Komen Foundation and others enables SETON to offer reduced cost mammograms for eligible low-income, uninsured women.
Corporate Outreach
Area businesses can also contract for employee breast screenings through the mobile mammography program. Convenient, on-site breast screening encourages busy employees to take the time to be screened and demonstrates corporate commitment to employees’ health.
Take the Time Van
SETON transports the mobile mammography unit to churches, businesses and other community organizations in the Take the Time Breast Cancer Outreach Van. This custom van is a cooperative, community effort sponsored by Maxwell Ford, KVUE and the Austin Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Seton is proud to have four hospitals – the only hospitals in Central Texas - that have earned the
