The 2012 Walk Texas Challenge recruited 18 people concerned with diabetes committed to increasing their personal level of physical activity. Twelve people finished the program, logging the equivalent of walking over 1900 miles during this year’s 10 week challenge! Looking at the results another way, each member of our team averaged about 4 hours of physical activity per week!
The research is clear that 30 minutes of physical activity MOST DAYS has profound health benefits for persons with diabetes, including: Lower blood glucose levels for up to 24 hours after an exercise session. Lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol levels. Increased success with weight loss goals. Increased stamina.
