Medical & Surgical Simulation Labs
- The Clinical Education Center at Brackenridge will have up to eight simulation labs to support interdisciplinary team training.
- The initial simulation labs will be configured as a labor and delivery room, operating room/catherization lab and an emergency room/intensive care unit.
- Each room will include microphones and video cameras.
- Each room will be equipped with high-fidelity interactive mannequins that will provide learners with a safe, error-forgiving environment to practice interdisciplinary team approaches to patient care.
- During full-scale team-based simulations, instructors will observe and coordinate faculty and actors through wireless intercoms, as well as be able to modify the simulation in progress and provide a voice for the patient (through a speaker in the mannequin).
Skills Labs
- The Skills Labs will provide opportunities for learners to practice nursing and medical skills in a real life hospital setting.
- Learners will develop skills such as dressing changes, ostomy care, intravenous fluid and medication practice, intramuscular medication practice, as well as more complex skills such as tracheal suction and tracheostomy care.
