UMC Brackenridge: Austin's only Adult Level I Trauma Center

The American College of Surgeons and the State of Texas has named University Medical Center Brackenridge Austin's only Adult Level I Trauma Center – the highest level of emergency medicine in the nation.

What is the Level I Difference?

Our Commitment to the Community
For more than 100 years, the people of Central Texas have turned to University Medical Center Brackenridge and the Seton Family of Hospitals in an emergency, knowing they would receive the very best care. UMC Brackenridge has long been a leader in trauma care, introducing the latest advances in emergency services throughout its 125-year history, including the area's first ambulance, the first intensive care unit and was the first hospital in Texas to receive stroke certification for its Brain & Spine Center. Whether you are facing a medical emergency or a chronic illness, UMC Brackenridge is your first choice for complex care.

Leadership in Education and Research
UMC Brackenridge patients benefit from the leading-edge academic research and the evidence-driven medical training conducted here. UMC Brackenridge is home to the Clinical Education Center, a multi-disciplinary medical education facility where students train in simulated settings with the high-fidelity interactive mannequins.

Comprehensive Resources for Critical Care
Qualifying for Level I Trauma Center designation has required a major financial investment, along with countless hours of work from our dedicated professionals – all in an effort to bring even more resources to the region's largest emergency department. UMC Brackenridge expanded the emergency department facilities and invested nearly $5 million in a new intensive care unit to accommodate even more patients and to provide critical care services as quickly as possible.

Caring for You
More resources are available around the clock, including emergency surgery and microsurgery, as well as expanded behavioral health resources, to deliver specialized care whenever the need arises.
