Bio

Dr. Smith, a board-certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician and the Rehabilitation Medical Director for the Seton Family of Hospitals and multiple outpatient facilities. An Austin native, Dr. Smith received her medical school and residency training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and returned to Austin to begin her private practice in 1990. 5he sub-specializes in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine and Neurorehabilitation at University Medical Center Brackenridge. She is involved in teaching and research in conjunction with the University of Texas Southwestern and the University of Texas Medical Branch Austin programs and is a faculty member for UTSW, UTMB and Baylor/UT PMR programs in Houston. She also serves as the Co-Chair of the UMC Brackenridge Ethics Committee and is interim Chair of the PMR Division of the Seton Brain & Spine Institute.

Dr. Smith is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. American Medical Association and Texas Medical Association. She served as the 2009 President of the Travis County Medical Society.  She also enjoys musculoskeleton and sports medicine and is Co-Medical Director of the LiveStrong Austin Marathon. She has received awards for clinical excellence and lectures frequently about various rehabilitation topics, sports medicine, practice management, workers compensation, ethics and other issues. Dr. Smith enjoys being an advocate for her patients as both a Delegate for the AMA and in legislative testimony.
