Dr. Sanchez received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1989 and a Medical Doctoral Degree from Southwestern Medical School at Dallas in 1993.  Dr. Sanchez then completed her General Surgery Training at the State University of New York in 1998.  Her interest in Pediatric Trauma took her to Baltimore where she completed a Pediatric Trauma and Research Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1999.  Her research focused on the genetic influence on clinical outcome to injury and sepsis. Upon completing her fellowship, she returned to New York to complete her training in Pediatric Surgery at the State University of New York in 2001.

Her firm believe in injury prevention gave birth to the first Children's Education and Community Resource Center.  In 2006, her "Boost Now! Join the Buckleteers!" a booster seat program to increase the usage of booster seats in children received national recognition.
