Bio

Dr. Harrod, a native of Central Texas, attended The University of Texas for her undergraduate degree. After graduating, she pursued a doctoral degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center through The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Houston. Her research project involved investigating the use of novel bioreductive drugs in the treatment of solid tumors.

Dr. Harrod then went on to obtain her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. After medical school, she returned to Austin and completed the pediatric residency program at Children’s Hospital of Austin. She then moved to Memphis, Tennessee where she did her fellowship in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Dr. Harrod’s research interests span both hematology and oncology. During fellowship, she participated in research evaluating the long term effects of therapy in sickle cell disease. She has also done research in the area of coagulation and thrombosis, investigating safety and efficacy of new treatment protocols. Dr. Harrod continues to have strong clinical research interests in oncology, especially in the development of novel treatment protocols for pediatric solid tumors, both newly diagnosed and relapsed disease states.

When not working at the hospital, Dr. Harrod enjoys spending time outdoors, especially camping and hiking with her husband and two children.
