Dr. Gary Gronstedt earned his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He completed an internship at Capital Regional Medical Center in Jefferson City, Missouri before starting his psychiatry residency at Cherokee Mental Health Institute/Des Moines University. After completing his residency, he was a staff psychiatrist with Integra Health, Des Moines, Iowa and Psych Strategies in Santa Rosa, California. He returned to training and completed a child psychiatry fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He has been a faculty psychiatrist at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He also was a member of the National Health Service Corps and practiced in an underserved area in northwest Missouri at St. Francis Hospital. He has practiced both adult and child psychiatry in a variety of clinical settings, including inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, and consultation liaison.
His teaching experience includes being assistant professor in psychiatry at the University of Minnesota. He was a preceptor for the Minnesota Future Doctor's program. He also served as a preceptor for medical students at Des Moines University - College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery.
Dr. Gronstedt holds appointments as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine and Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at University of Texas Medical Branch.
Dr. Gronstedt is board certified in both general and child psychiatry with the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry and has served as a board examiner also. He is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Osteopathic Association.
