Bio

Dr. Bertelson is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. A graduate of Rice University, Dr. Bertelson attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. He completed his neurology residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and his behavioral neurology fellowship at McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA. A former instructor at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Bertelson is currently an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Texas Southwestern, a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Bertelson has extensive training in the treatment of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy Body Disease, vascular dementia, post-traumatic brain injuries and strokes. He works with the physician team to develop the best plan of care for the patient, and communicates this plan and what to expect post-operatively to the patient and their family. Dr. Bertelson is thorough in his approach, from evaluation and testing through treatment and rehabilitation, and the patient’s well-being is always his primary concern.

Dr. Bertelson is the Co-founder of Austin Cognitive Medicine Society, and a member of the American Heart Association, the American Society of Neuroimaging, the Texas Medical Association, the American Neuropsychiatric Association, the American Academy of Neurology and the American Medical Association. He has been with Seton Brain & Spine since 2008.
