Surgical Specialties
A board-certified general surgeon, Dr. Augenstein has completed a Fellowship at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC for Advanced Laparoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery. Dr. Augenstein has also completed certification in Fundamentals in Laparoscopic Surgery. She has special surgical interest in laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy, colectomy, bowel resection, solid organ surgery (spleen, adrenal, kidney), hernia repair (inguinal, ventral, incisional, hiatal), anti-reflux and foregut surgery, gastric resection, and live donor nephrectomy.
Education and Professional Associations
Dr. Augenstein received her Medical Degree from University of Louisville, School of Medicine and was a surgical resident at University of Louisville, Department of Surgery. She has presented papers at many surgical meetings and has published numerous papers on laparoscopic and bariatric surgery. She also co-authored the newest SAGES guidelines for surgical treatment of achalasia. She is an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Texas Medical Association, and the Association of Women Surgeons. Dr. Augenstein also trained at the Carolinas Hernia Center which has won the American Hernia Society Research Award for five consecutive years and has special interests in complex abdominal wall reconstruction and hernia repair.
Biography
Dr. Augenstein speaks English, Bosnian, and some Spanish. She likes to spend free time with her husband Adam, family, friends and her dog Lily. To keep active she enjoys running, snow skiing, and playing tennis.
