Dr. Smitha Murthy attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before moving to India where she received her medical degree from JSS Medical College in Mysore, India. She completed her residency program in psychiatry at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina where she served as Co-Chief Resident. She completed a fellowship in psychosomatic medicine at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
She specializes in consultation-liaison psychiatry, which involves the evaluation and treatment of patients with co-morbid psychiatric and medical illness in the general hospital setting. Dr. Murthy also has experience with telemedicine psychiatry. Dr. Murthy holds appointments as Assistant Professor University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Clinical Assistant Professor Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine and Clinical Assistant Professor University of Texas Medical Branch.
Dr. Murthy is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine.
