Dr. Robert Mingea earned his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University. He then received his medical degree from the University of Alabama. He successfully completed his internship and residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Internal Medicine in Houston, TX. His cardiac-related training was received at Texas Heart Institute where he completed his fellowship. Dr. Mingea is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Adult Cardiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Mingea specializes in Interventional Cardiology focusing on the latest in treatment of Acute Coronary Syndromes. His focus is on the treatment of both acute and chronic coronary artery issues with cardiac endovascular stents. He also consults in patients with congestive heart failure, rhythm disturbances, high cholesterol management, valvular heart disease and hypertension. Preventive care is also extremely emphasized in his practice.
Music has been a lifelong passion for Dr. Mingea. Currently he is playing the piano and Hammond Organ in the band Natural Causes. He also plays guitar and has a serious vintage guitar collection. Song writing also has been one of his lifelong pursuits, having been published in Nashville before deciding on a career in Medicine. His love and knowledge of music, especially the blues has naturally led him to become the physician for most of Austin's world class musicians. He works closely with the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM), providing cardiac care to musicians who would otherwise not be able to afford such care.
Dr. Mingea enjoys fly-fishing especially for large trout in western waters. He is the proud father of two beautiful girls, Adrianne is a UT graduate in Geology and Marisa is a professional dance instructor, choreographer and performer.
