Michelle Ryerson joined University Medical Center Brackenridge as chief nursing officer in 2012, having previously served as the vice president for Hospital Clinical Operations at University Health System in San Antonio. She has 20 years of health care leadership experience in academic teaching, transplant and Level I Trauma facilities.

Michelle received a BSN from Nazareth College in Rochester, NY, and MSN in Critical Care from The University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio School of Nursing. In 2010, she earned a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree in Executive Leadership from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Anita Thigpen Perry School of Nursing. Michelle is certified in Nursing Administration, Advanced by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. In 2006, she successfully completed a National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems fellowship. In 2009, she completed the National Quality Colloquium Patient Safety Certificate Program sponsored through Thomas Jefferson University's School of Population Health. A veteran of the United States Air Force Nurse Corp, Michelle retired as a reserve officer after completing a distinguished career and tour of duty in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Michelle is a member of several professional nursing and alumni organizations.
