Senior Vice President/System Chief Nursing Officer
Seton Family of Hospitals
An experienced nursing executive, Joyce Batcheller led the development of a mature shared governance structure for an integrated hospital network that has empowered and developed nurse leaders at all levels. Front-line nurses collaborated with colleagues to standardize evidence-based best practices across 10 hospitals and 13 ambulatory sites. Under her leadership, four Seton facilities are the only Magnet®-designated hospitals in Central Texas, the gold standard of nursing quality as determined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Three other sites are designated by ANCC as Pathway to Excellence™ sites for their commitment to nurses and for valuing nurses’ contributions as patient care partners.
Joyce led strategic planning for the spread of Transforming Care at the Bedside from a Robert Wood Johnson/Institute for Healthcare Improvement project pilot site to 15 Seton medical-surgical units across eight hospitals. TCAB has resulted in practice efficiencies, decreased work intensity, improved nurse retention and increased nurse time at the bedside from 25 percent to 60 percent.
Most recently, she implemented a Nursing Business Intelligence system and the RN Residency Program, improvements that reduced vacancy and turnover rates from double- to single-digit percentages.
Joyce received a diploma in Nursing from Hartford Hospital School of Nursing in Connecticut, followed by a BSN and MSN from The University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio School of Nursing. In 2008, she completed the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellowship and in May 2010 will earn a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Anita Thigpen Perry School of Nursing. She recently was named a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurses.

Seton is proud to have four hospitals – the only hospitals in Central Texas - that have earned the
