In addition to his role at Dell Children’s, Dr. John Hellerstedt is the associate chief medical officer for the Seton Family of Hospitals.  

A dedicated child advocate, Dr. Hellerstedt followed the progress of Dell Children’s from its inception to opening. Before signing on with Seton, Dr. Hellerstedt worked with the Texas Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program. There, he was medical director for the Medicaid CHIP Division with the Health & Human Services Commission.

Prior to that, Dr. Hellerstedt served as associate faculty with the Austin Pediatric Education Program, teaching medical students and residents and directing patient care in both in-patient and out-patient settings. Board certified in general pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Hellerstedt practiced general pediatrics for 18 years with Austin Regional Clinic. While at ARC, he also served as pediatric department chairman.
