Frank Mazza, MD, leads organizationwide clinical quality and patient safety initiatives that have been recognized nationally for innovation. Previously, he served seven years as vice president for Medical Affairs at Seton Medical Center Austin. He has also served as chief of staff and president of the Network Medical Staff, as medical director for Seton's Sleep Disorders Center, as chairman of the Board of Seton FamilyCare and as chairman of the Contracting Committee of the Seton Physician-Hospital Network. He continues in the roles of network medical director for both Respiratory Care and Seton's Simulation Center. Currently he chairs Ascension Health’s High Reliability Steering Committee and is a member of Ascension’s national Clinical Excellence Committee.
Dr. Mazza received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine. He subsequently received his training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in the hospital system of Case Western Reserve University. He has practiced Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in Austin for 30 years, and continues to do so part time.
A former member of the Seton Family of Hospitals Board of Trustees, Dr. Mazza has been a faculty member for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, The Joint Commission, Premier, the Scottsdale Institute and for Ascension Health at the national level. He holds academic appointments at UT Southwest, UT Medical Branch and Texas State University. Recently he was named a Knight of Malta, an organization with a 1,000 year history originally established to protect travelers on pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
