Vice President, Patient Care Services and Chief Operating Officer, Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas
Deb Brown was promoted to vice president for Patient Care Services and chief operating officer for Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas in February 2014. She had been serving as interim chief operating officer of the region's leading freestanding pediatric facility since June 2013.
Brown has been a critical member of the team in establishing the medical center's reputation for quality and innovation. She assumed chief nursing officer responsibilities as part of her daily operations role, streamlining operations and decision-making.
Brown graduated from the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing in 1990, and then worked 17 years at Children's Medical Center of Dallas in various staff and leadership roles, including bedside nursing in the pediatric intensive care unit and emergency department; director of the trauma service line & emergency services network; and director of transport services. She successfully led the development and implementation of the State of Texas' first Level I Pediatric Trauma Center as accredited by the American College of Surgeons.
Brown subsequently developed the trauma service line at Phoenix Children's Hospital and was successful in gaining accreditation for the organization as the State of Arizona's only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. With her knowledge in program development and implementation, she initiated the development of the Children's Neurosciences Institute prior to returning to Austin in 2009 to lead the trauma service line at Dell Children's.
Since her arrival, Deb has served in a number of roles to support Dell Children's mission beyond her role as trauma service line director - planning and opening a new patient care tower; expansion of pediatric specialty services in rural Central Texas; and strategic planning for our entire pediatric ministry.
