Dr. Carol Wratten is chief quality officer for the Seton Healthcare Family. She oversees the health system's interdisciplinary Performance Improvement, Informatics, Analytics, Safety, Risk Management and Accreditation organization.

Dr. Wratten joined the Seton Healthcare Family in July 2011 ad vice president of Medical Affairs for Seton Medical Center Austin. She focused on clinical effectiveness in total joint replacement and spine surgery, as well as efforts to reduce readmissions.

In recent years, Dr. Wratten became more interested in process improvement within complex systems. During her years in practice, she was active in medical staff leadership and other positions of leadership within the community. She pursued an MBA and took on a full-time administrative role focused on team building, interdisciplinary collaboration for change management and process redesign. She was the Baptist market leader for becoming a High Reliability Organization and coordinated the education program for the 2,700 physicians and 6,500 staff members within the organization. Her recent projects include a Medicare bundled payment program for orthopedic and cardiac care, implementation of a systemwide electronic ICU, system primary stroke certification and total joint certification with The Joint Commission, and preparation for CPOE.

Her work with Medical Staff Affairs focused on new physician on-boarding with a streamlined application, orientation, safety training and specialty specific FPPE process. Her team developed a specialty specific Ongoing Physician Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and redesigned the peer review process to include a System Professional Standards Committee. This committee standardized the management of physician complaints, disruptive behavior and chronic rule violations and included peer counseling and mentoring.

Dr. Wratten received her medical school education at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and did her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at UTHSC in San Antonio. She is a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Carol obtained a Master of Business Administration at The University of Texas at San Antonio.
