A celebration and book signing in honor of some dedicated canines took place outside the gift shop at Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas on Wednesday, May 28. Patients, families and local media got to meet and spend time with dogs from the Woody Pet Therapy Program. Children enjoyed petting the pooches, posing for photos and getting post cards 'paw-tographed' by the dogs.

Child Life and Volunteer Services helped host the event that brought smiles to many children including 12-year-old patient Makayla Uribe.

'The dogs are really helpful to lift my spirits,' Uribe said. 'They're just so cute, and when you feel that happy it's hard to focus on pain and medicine,' she said.

The event also featured sales of the new children's book, Healing in Glass, honoring more than 25 years of the Woody Pet Therapy program. The book includes photos and biographies of the dogs and information about the beautiful tile mosaic located in the healing garden of Dell Children's. Books are still available for purchase at the Treehouse Gift Shop at Dell Children's: hardback copies for $39.50 and softback copies for $30. A portion of sale proceeds will benefit the Woody Pet Therapy Program.
