AUSTIN, Texas - (March 28, 2014) - Garry M. Olney, BSN, MBA, DNP, is the new vice president and chief operating officer for Seton Medical Center Austin, the largest hospital within Central Texas' largest health care system. Olney has been chief operating officer for Austin Regional Clinic (ARC) since 2010.
"Hospital care is evolving for the better - to better ensure that patients and their loved ones are at the center of all we do at Seton," said Dr. Bob Bonar, Seton Family of Hospitals' president and chief executive officer. "Garry brings with him a wealth of ideas that I am confident will ensure our patients at Seton Austin will continue to have the best possible experience in their times of medical need."
Olney's broad expertise make him a welcome addition to the Seton Austin team, said Kate Henderson, president of Seton Medical Center Austin, Seton Shoal Creek Hospital, University Medical Center Brackenridge and Seton's Health Equity Initiatives.
"Garry possesses robust leadership and management skills, with more than 25 years' experience in health care leadership roles, including chief nursing officer, chief operating officer and chief executive officer within hospitals, health systems and multispecialty clinics," she said. "Garry's results orientation and customer service focus are real stand outs, and he is well-suited to help lead Seton Austin's culture of excellence."

While ARC will miss Olney, its longtime leader wishes him well.

Olney also is an adjunct professor at Concordia University and serves on the board of My Healing Place and the advisory board of The Settlement Home for Children. Prior to joining ARC, he held various executive positions with Tenet Healthcare from 1992 to 2010, the last six as vice president for patient care services at the company's corporate headquarters in Dallas.
During his tenure at Tenet, he was chief executive officer at Whittier Medical Center and San Dimas Community Hospital, and chief operating officer at Fountain Valley Regional, Garden Grove and St. Luke's medical centers, all in Southern California.
Olney earned his bachelor's degree in nursing at the Medical College of Ohio/Toledo University; MBA at the University of St. Thomas in Houston; and his doctorate of nursing practice at Texas Tech University.
