AUSTIN, Texas - (Oct. 25, 2011) - Dell Children's
Medical Center of Central Texas is hosting its
3rd annual 5k and Family Fun Fair on Saturday, October 29
to benefit The Carl Teel Music Therapy Endowment and the
hospital's areas of greatest need.
The music program, provided by board-certified therapists,
helps to soothe and pacify, promote learning and offer a
sense of security. Therapy can also
significantly contribute to a child's physical, emotional,
and cognitive recovery or development.
'Music therapy is one of many Dell Children's programs that
help support families and patients to cope with
hospitalization, which can often be a stressful time," said
Missy Wood, executive director, Children's Medical Center
Foundation. "Funds raised from this event will help to expand
medical care and support programs for the patient families of
the 46-county area Dell Children's serves."
The day will include live music, games, activities and other family fun following the 5k run/walk. The race, which begins with a kids' fun run at 8:30 a.m., will start and end at Dell Children's located in the Mueller neighborhood at 4900 Mueller Boulevard in Austin, Texas.
