AUSTIN, Texas - (Sept. 30, 2011) - Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas, a member of the Seton Healthcare Family, is honored to be selected as the sole beneficiary of the 2012 Statesman Capitol 10,000 sponsorship proceeds. The 35th annual race, the largest 10K in Texas and the fifth largest in the nation, will take place on Sunday, March 25, 2012, in Austin.

Dell Children's, the premier health care provider for children in Central Texas, provides top quality medical services for babies, children and young adolescents in 46 counties and beyond. The hospital had nearly 130,000 patient visits in 2010.

In 2007, Dell Children's moved to its current location in the Mueller community - a larger facility to meet the demand for pediatric care in one of the nation's fastest growing regions. While a further expansion of the hospital was always in the plans, the project was moved up two years earlier than expected because of the growing demand for pediatric medical care. Development of a third wing for beds is expected to break ground in mid fall 2011.

All race proceeds will go toward the construction of the three-story wing. The addition will add 72 patient beds, increasing the capacity of the hospital by 40 percent.

"Dell Children's mission is to provide the highest quality medical care for community children," said Bob Bonar, president and chief executive officer, Dell Children's Medical Center. "The generous donation from this year's race will help fund a project that will serve the critical health care needs of more children and families in Central Texas."

"We are proud to support the fundraising efforts of Dell Children's Medical Center and are privileged to help ensure that this premier medical facility can continue to meet the medical needs of the community," said Jann Girard, Statesman Capitol 10,000 race director.

The Statesman Capitol 10,000 began in 1978 with 3,400 participants. In 2011, nearly 23,000 runners and walkers participated, including 2,000 H-E-B partners (employees). H-E-B will return for a third year as presenting sponsor for the 35th anniversary race.

The race begins at 8 a.m. on March 25, 2012. The Austin American-Statesman, presenting sponsor H-E-B and other event sponsors will grant the race sponsorship proceeds to Dell Children's at the starting line on Congress Avenue and Barton Springs Road.

"We look forward to race day and to the Austin community's participation in our beloved event for fun, fitness and a great cause," added Girard.

Registration for the 2012 Statesman Cap 10K begins October 3, 2011 online at cap10k.com. For more race information, please contact Jann Girard at (512) 445-3598.
