AUSTIN, Texas - (Sept. 19, 2011) - The Seton Foundations have awarded Seton Nurse Scholarships to 20 outstanding Seton employees. Each recipient was selected from a competitive group of 100 applicants and received $3,000 to further his or her nursing education.
Those who received scholarships this year represent a wide range of health care experience and interests and have collectively invested more than 157 years of service at Seton. Recipients were selected by a committee of physicians, nurses and Seton Nurse Scholarship Endowment donors.

"For 44 years, Seton has provided my family the nursing excellence we've needed," said Seton Nurse Scholarship Selection Committee Member and long-time Seton supporter Luci Baines Johnson. "My children were born at Seton, and my family has come to Seton for operations, illness and the last stages of life. We have shared the best of times and the worst of times with Seton, and all our times were better because we knew we could count on loving care from competent, well-trained, well-educated nurses. A gift to the Seton Nurse Scholarship Endowment was the perfect way to honor my mother's nurse, Marion Douglas, for her selfless service and commitment to excellence."

The Seton Nurse Scholarship Endowment was established in 2005 to provide Seton associates with support for their nursing education. To date, the community has contributed more than $4.6 million to the endowment, including generous donations from employees through the Seton Cares campaign. Through this generosity and matching funds provided by Seton Healthcare Family President and CEO Charles Barnett on behalf of the Seton network, 125 scholarships worth $245,000 have been awarded to Seton nursing students over the years.
