Event to Benefit the Seton Children's Care-a-Van

Luling, TX - (July 15, 2010) - If you want to have a rocking good time, dance to music by Johnny Dee and Rocket 88's and help provide much-needed medical services for children in Central Texas, plan on attending the Rockin' Around the Care-a-Van 'Taking Care of Tiny Texans' gala, Saturday, August 14, 6:30 to 11 p.m., Embassy Suites San Marcos Hotel, Spa and Conference Center, San Marcos, Texas.

Presented by the Caldwell County Associates, the 6th annual fundraising event supports the Seton Children's Care-a-Van, a full-service mobile health unit offering affordable health care for children of all ages in need. Since launching in 2003, the van has traveled to area schools and churches serving thousands of children, most of whom have no medical home otherwise. No child is ever refused treatment based on ability to pay.

"We have provided health care to thousands of children and families since our inception," said Julie M. Carter, LMSW, Clinical Manager, Seton Lockhart Operations. "Although the maximum visit is $20 for uninsured patients, we never turn a child away. Many of these children would go without health care services without the van."

The 2008 annual fundraising gala raised funds allowing us to continue services in 2009 including:

• Provided immunizations to 2400 children;
• Served over 2000 children with healthcare, both primary care and acute visits, 50 per cent of whom no means to pay;
• Among our patients, 60 percent used the van as a primary care provider, thus avoiding unnecessary emergency room visits;
• Provided almost 600 medications at no charge to children in Central Texas;
• Assisted almost 800 children in enrolling with Chip or Medicaid.
