AUSTIN, TX - (March 31, 2010) - On Friday, March 26, Seton Family of Hospitals hosted the Health Industry Steering Committee (HISC) annual Nursing Academy for high school students.

This year 80 students from 15 Austin area high schools participated in the Nursing Academy. Students learn how to prepare for career in nursing, explore different career pathways, interacted with nursing students from Austin Community College (ACC) and University of Texas, and participated in a hands-on simulation lab.

One student spoke to KXAN-TV about his future in the medical field.

The HISC Nursing Academy is a collaboration with Capital Area Health Education Center, Seton Family of Hospitals, St. David's Hospital, ACC and University of Texas School of Nursing. The academy was originally started seven years ago to help generate student interest in a career of nursing due to the shortage in the field.
