AUSTIN, TX - (February 11, 2010) - On Saturday, Feb. 6, the Seton Family of Hospitals hosted its 19th-annual Mock Surgery Tour, held this year at the Clinical Education Center at Brackenridge. And what a success it was!

More than 1,500 people visited the CEC's operating rooms, recovery area and skills labs. The family event allowed children to watch simulated surgeries and procedures -- and they even had a chance to handle some of the instruments.

Seton offers this behind-the-scenes, interactive tour every year to educate the public about the different types of technology and techniques used in surgical procedures. This unique event also helps to demystify the whole experience of having surgery and, hopefully, will entice children to consider careers in health care.

Stops on the tour included demonstrations and discussions on perianesthesia and endoscopy, an "operation game" as well as laparoscopic cholecystectomy, open-heart surgery, weight-loss surgery, anesthesia and airway management, trauma care, cardiac catheterization and neonatal care.

Special thanks go to all of the associates from across the Seton Family who volunteered their time to organize and staff the event.
