Austin, Texas - (March 3, 2008) - The Seton Family of Hospitals has been named the highest-ranked healthcare system in Texas and among the top 100 integrated healthcare systems nationwide.
The rankings were announced by Verispan, a healthcare
data and consulting firm that ranks healthcare systems by
efficiency and performance.
The Verispan 2008 IHN 100 recognizes healthcare systems that
operate as a unified organization in eight categories:
integration, integrated technology, contractual capabilities,
outpatient utilization, financial stability, services and
access, hospital utilization and physicians. Seton ranked
higher than the Top Ten average nationally for services, access
and financial stability.
"It's a privilege to be recognized as the highest ranked health care system in Texas, not to mention to be among some of the nation's largest and most prestigious healthcare networks," said Charles J. Barnett, president and CEO, Seton Family of Hospitals. "We at the Seton Family of Hospitals strive every day to provide the best quality care possible for the communities we serve and this type of honor provides valuable recognition for the work that our incredible staff does day-in and day-out."
In the last year, Seton has opened two new facilities: Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas, the only free-standing pediatric hospital serving a 46-county area; and the newest member of the Seton Family, Seton Medical Center Williamson in Round Rock. Additionally, Seton is home to the Seton Heart Specialty Care and Transplant Center at Seton Medical Center Austin -- the only hospital to perform heart transplants in Central Texas and the leader in sophisticated cardiac surgeries.
Last fall, the Joint Commission named the Seton Family of Hospitals as a 2007 recipient of the 11th-annual Ernest Amory Codman Award in the multiple organization category, recognizing Seton for its success in reducing preventable birth injuries. The initiative resulted in a 93 percent reduction in birth trauma rates from 0.3 percent for 2001-2003 to 0.02 percent in 2006.
"It's accomplishments like these that confirm our leadership in the healthcare industry and within the Central Texas community," added Barnett.
In selecting the Top 100, Verispan tracked close to 600 health systems. The Verispan 2008 rankings are published in Modern Healthcare magazine.

Seton is proud to have four hospitals – the only hospitals in Central Texas - that have earned the
