AUSTIN, Texas - (Feb. 15, 2008) - Brackenridge Hospital has been a leader in medical innovation and academic medicine for the Central Texas area since it opened in 1884. To reflect this incredible achievement, and to recognize what this facility has meant -- and will continue to mean -- for this great community we call home, the Seton Family of Hospitals recently announced a new name for Brackenridge: University Medical Center at Brackenridge.

The name change was officially approved by the Travis County Healthcare District (TCHD) Board of Managers in late January -- the organization that leases with Seton to oversee the daily operation and management of the facility.

"Changing the name of Brackenridge to the University Medical Center at Brackenridge better represents the academic medicine that's currently underway at this innovative facility, which includes clinical research, residency programs for doctors and nurses, cutting edge simulation training and graduate medical education," said Greg Hartman, Senior Vice President, University Medical Center at Brackenridge. "Highlighting the facility's academic affiliations strengthens our ability to recruit the nation's top medical students and doctors, and helps consumers recognize Brackenridge's continuing role as the home of medical innovation in Central Texas."

Additionally, the name change is designed to help improve recognition of the hospital as a local and regional asset and its ongoing role as a medical innovator in Central Texas.
