The Brain & Spine Center at Brackenridge Hospital is among the nation's top neuroscience programs, and has been designated as a Neuroscience Center of Excellence (COE), according to the 2006 Neuroscience Center of Excellence, co-sponsored by Neurosource, Inc., and HealthTech, San Francisco, CA.

The Brain & Spine Center is the only one in Central Texas to receive this honor and shares the distinction with two others in the state of Texas and with 35 other facilities in the nation. The 2006 survey, the only one of its kind in the neurosciences, analyzed 150 neuroscience programs, across 41 states. A hospital's overall performance is determined by measuring program progress in four key areas: clinical and research programs, staff, facilities and technology, and business.

"We are pleased to be recognized for our multidisciplinary approach and commitment to the highest standards of neurological and neurosurgical patient care", says Bruce Broslat, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Brackenridge. "Center of Excellence designation designees represent many of the leading, innovative programs across the country.

"This honor is given to hospitals across the country that provides comprehensive neurological and neurosurgical care. The Brain & Spine Center has the most advanced technology and techniques, including a comprehensive range of neuroscience specialists available to the Central Texas community," says Craig Kemper, Medical Director, Brain & Spine Center.

The Brain & Spine Center offers a variety of programs to help patients with disorders of the brain and spine. These programs include stroke, epilepsy, tumors, aneurysms and vascular malformations, spasticity and movement disorders, head injuries, and back and spine/spinal cord problems. The Center offers patients access to high quality care, including state of the art operating suites and imaging capabilities, a comprehensive epilepsy monitoring unit, designated intensive care and medical-surgical units, access to rehabilitation services, the Cyberknife stereotactic radiosurgery program, and the Brain & Spine Recovery Center: a comprehensive program for spinal cord injury rehabilitation.
