Austin, TX (June 15, 2006): The Seton Family of Hospitals has been named one of the "Best Places to Work in Central Texas" for 2006 by the Austin Business Journal.

Seton is one of only 10 winners in the "large business" category. The award recognizes achievements in creating a positive work environment that attracts, develops and retains employees through a combination of people practices, working conditions, feeling valued and company culture.

Seton associates participated in a confidential online survey. The survey measured items across several different themes including Team Effectiveness, People Practices, Trust, Work Engagement, Feeling Valued, Effectiveness, Individual Contribution, Alignment with Goals and Retention Risk.

This is the second time Seton has been recognized as one of the Austin Business Journal's "Best Places to Work." In 2004, Seton was selected as one of eight not-for-profit organizations.

The achievement underscores both the importance and success of Seton's emphasis on creating a Worklife Community where each associate can feel energized coming to work each day, knowing he/she will be treated with respect, have opportunities to learn and grow, and do meaningful work.

Seton is a 'Best Place to Work' because of its terrific staff who day-in, day-out, do so much for each other, for Seton and for the Central Texas community, said Marcia Silverberg, Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Organizational Development, Seton Family of Hospitals.

Seton brings unique value to the Central Texas community. Among many firsts in 2006, Seton Medical Center (SMC), a member of the Seton Family of Hospitals, was selected as one of only 15 training sites in the country - and the only site in Central Texas - for a new method of computer-assisted surgery using Medtronic Navigation.

SMC was also named a recipient of the "2005 Solucient 100 Top Hospitals Performance Improvement Leaders."

The Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas (DCMCCT), another member of the Seton Family of Hospitals, along with Karlsberger, the architectural firm designing the new hospital, were awarded the American Institute of Architects Columbus Chapter (AIA Columbus), 2006 Designing Towards Sustainability Award. DCMCCT is on track to become the first hospital in the world to have Platinum status under the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) program, sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council, when it opens in June 2007.

In addition, this past May, Seton became the first healthcare network in Austin to offer air transport services for critically ill newborns. Through a special contract with Austin-Travis County EMS STAR Flight, Seton is now transporting newborns from referring hospitals to its neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) at Children's Hospital of Austin and Seton Medical Center.

One other highlight: Nursing services at Seton Highland Lakes, a member of the Seton Family of Hospitals, joined an elite group - less than three percent of hospitals in Texas - to be awarded the prestigious Texas Nurses Association's Nurse-Friendly hospital designation. This designation is based on meeting the ideal nursing practice environment, with criteria defined by TNA.

The Seton Family of Hospitals is the leading provider of health care services in Central Texas with approximately 20 locations throughout the region. The Seton Family includes the only hospitals in Central Texas to be granted Magnet Status, the highest award for nursing excellence given by the American Nurses Association; the only Heart Transplant Center in Central Texas; the busiest Level II Trauma Center in the state; and the first two Designated Stroke Centers in Texas to receive a Gold Seal of Approval by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. In FY 2005, Seton, a member of Ascension Health, the largest not-for-profit health network in the nation, provided more than $247 million in charity and community benefit to Central Texans.
