Austin, Texas (October 3, 2008) - Seton Medical Center Austin (SMCA) has been named a 2008-09 Consumer Choice Award winner. The award recognizes SMCA as the top healthcare choice in Central Texas, according to the NRC Healthcare Market Guide® study, the largest and most comprehensive study of its kind. More than 200,000 households were surveyed across the United States.

The award recognizes those hospitals chosen by consumers as having the highest quality and image in their respective markets. Winners are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings.

The only Austin hospital named as a Consumer Choice Award winner, SMCA first received the distinction in 1996 and has been a recipient ever since.

"It is an honor to be recognized year after year by our patients and their families," said John Brindley, president and CEO, Seton Medical Center Austin. "Our medical staff and associates are committed to providing the best quality of patient care. It is awards like these that showcase our team's impact and work in the community we serve."

Seton Medical Center Austin will soon finish construction of a five-story addition to the west side of the current facility. The second floor of the expansion will be dedicated to obstetrics, including 30 new postpartum rooms, new Stabilization, Continuing Care and Well Baby nurseries, and four new operating rooms for C-sections (one set aside for future use). The existing postpartum, labor and delivery, and antepartum rooms will also have a fresh, inviting look when renovations are complete this fall.
